BLOGS
  • Travel. Write. Drink Plenty of Fluids.
Travel. Write. Drink Plenty of Fluids. is a train wreck of stories of travel and life abroad, sarcastic commentary on things that bug me, and even more sarcastic commentary on things that bug me so much they amuse me. Read at your own risk; I can not refund you your time.

  • St. Peter 9/11 Cross
On May 18th, 2011 renowned artist Jon Krawczyk embarked on a cross-country journey, hauling his modest contribution to the remembrance of 9/11, a fourteen-foot sculpture in the shape of a cross, from Los Angeles to New York. His final destination: the city's oldest Catholic Church, St. Peter's, where once stood the I-beam cross found in the rubble of the World Trade Center. Relive Jon's Journey Across America through colorful accounts of the many varied places he saw and the amazing, everyday people he met along the way.

  • The Inductive
The Inductive was formed in the summer of 2009 to further the countercyclical examination of issues in the Aristotelean inductive tradition.
I have been a contributing author for The Inductive since 2010; this despite my countercyclical thought processes.

  • Spotlight Sublime
This blog is a tribute to those who do great things without recognition.
I started it out of disgust for the attention given to the roaches of our society.

PUBLICATIONS
  • Quakebook
It took literally only days for this project to go from an idea in the shower to a moving, emotional reality.
The story of Quakebook is one of the strength and compassion of humanity in the face of horror and helplessness.
Japan and Fukushima have largely fallen by the media wayside, but for thousands the crisis continues.
And, for some, it will never really end. If you are thinking of buying a book today, this week, this month, please consider this one.
(Due to production time and logistics my participation in this project is limited to the eBook. Please consider getting the hardcover.)

  • Transitions Abroad 2011 Travel Narrative Runner-Up
In 2007, during a cycling trip through Southeast Asia, I found myself in a village in the middle of Nowhere, Northern Laos. With a little poetic license my story and photos fit perfectly into the theme of the contest: describe how traveling in a slower manner and adapting to the space and time of natives has deepened your experience of both the people and the destination.

  • Artavita 2011 Photography Contest
On a whim I threw one of my favorite photos onto the pile for this contest and won a semi-respectable 10th place. Out of how many? Not sure but in 3 artistic categories there were around 1200 entries - not exactly NatGeo but a bit more exclusive perhaps than submitting something for your high school magazine. Below is the image that I sent in; a larger version can be found under 'Southeast Asia' in the PHOTOS section of this website. (Trivia: What is that in her right hand?)

  • Travel Blog Exchange
Travel Blog Exchange - or TBEX - is a community of travel writers covering a broad range of topics and angles relating to, well, travel. Anyone who can stick to submission guidelines and the parameters of decent society can post here, which may dilute the accomplishment of having several of my articles featured but as they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity. Sorry, I say that quite tongue-in-cheek; TBEX is an enjoyable resource for reading about others' travels and seeing how others' views of the world might resemble or contrast with mine.

  • Delbarton Today
A firsthand account of traveling cross-country with Jon Krawczyk, subject of the St. Peter 9/11 Cross project (above).

SIGNINGS & EXHIBITIONS
  • Photo Exhibits at 4 St. Paul's Cafe & Gallery, Staten Island
George Christo and Sabrina Hamilton of Door to Door Realty are spearheading efforts to bring an artistic renaissance to Staten Island's underestimated North Shore. In the latter part of 2011 they opened the doors to 4 St. Paul's Cafe & Gallery, where my photographs of Southeast Asia and Morocco have been on display, alongside the works of many talented others. These photos and more can be viewed right here on this website, under the PHOTOS tab.

  • Junkudo Bookstores, Tokyo
It scared the crap out of me like nothing else in my entire ten years in Japan - except for the earthquake of March 11, 2011 - but somehow I was able to convince the people of Junkudo, Japan's largest bookstore company, to host a pair of book-signings for me, one in Shinjuku and one in Ikebukuro. I must give personal thanks once again to Mr. Kohashi for working very patiently with me to pull it off. And for my friends in Japan who didn't make it, go to any Junkudo and pick up your copy! (After you call ahead to make sure they have one on hand.) I'll sign it for you next time I'm in country.

  • Ten Weeks On A Bicycle - Photo Exhibit at Corasse, Fukushima, Japan
Upon my return from what was perhaps the greatest ten weeks of my life I had to do something with all those pictures I took. My friends were great, showing up with flowers and wine - which I suppose was their way of saying 'Congratulations, you filled out the Exhibit application Form correctly!'
